Guided self-help

Guided self-help is based on the principles of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT). It helps you to focus on your short term manageable goals.

Please note all videos used on this page were filmed when the service was called Steps2Change

You will work through self-help materials and learn techniques to improve how you are feeling. At the end of each session, you and your therapist will agree actions and goals for you to complete before your next appointment. As this is an active therapy, you will be encouraged to implement these skills in between sessions. This will help to maximise the benefits of therapy.

At each appointment you will complete a set of questionnaires to help us to monitor your mood and anxiety and track your progress.

Guided self-help is short term therapy and sessions will be for up to half an hour each week. The therapy can be offered either face-to-face or over the telephone.

This therapy will help you to understand the CBT approach. It has been shown to be an effective treatment for depression and anxiety disorders. It may be the first step in helping to prepare you for further input if needed.
