When we are dealing with difficult situations in life, our emotions respond to it so we know what we are thinking and feeling at the moment, and they help us decide what to do next. Sometimes, anger is the emotion that we feel and it can make us act in a way that could end up with us hurting ourselves or other people without meaning to.
Managing these strong emotions is a good way of being able to control your anger and live a happier life.
Anger is a normal emotion but it’s how you act when you feel angry that counts. Like any emotion, we need them all, but it starts to cause a problem when it affects how you act day-to-day:
- If it affects your relationships with others
- When you struggle to control your angry responses
- When you kick off at any little thing
- When you feel bad for your reactions and behaviours afterwards
- If you struggle talking to people without getting annoyed
- If you don’t like being told what to do and it makes you angry
How we can help you?
At Young Minds Matter we have different ways of helping you when you are feeling like this. Our first offer to you will be Managing Strong Emotions Skills Course which runs over seven sessions, where you can learn skills to help understand your emotions and be able to control your actions.
You will be given new information booklets every week, full of tips and tasks for you to try and help with you feeling stressed or angry. You will also meet people in your age group who have similar worries, but don’t worry, you don’t have to answer any personal questions or share anything about yourself if you don’t want to. This group is to help teach you skills and challenge those strong emotions and the thoughts and feelings that come with them.
If you still need support after the skills course, there is a possibility that you could have a few sessions with one of our Young Minds Matters practitioners, who are people trained to help you challenge those strong emotions when it feels too much to do alone.
There is always support available, it’s about finding the right support that fits you and your needs.
