Trauma and PTSD

When you go through extremely difficult and challenging times in life, it can leave you with trauma which could leave you with certain triggers made during these difficult events which could make you feel like you’re back in those painful times as soon as you experience those triggers.

Sometimes we are able to ignore those painful experiences as a way of coping, but if we haven’t processed them properly, there is a high chance that those events could come back to the surface and knock you down without warning.

How can we help you?

At Young Minds Matter we have different ways of working on events that have caused you trauma or led you to showing symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, these methods of help include:

  • Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) trauma: this looks at trying to reduce the negative experiences and emotions you are having when thinking about your trauma
  • Dialectical behavioural therapy (DBT) one to one work: working with a Young Minds Matter practitioner to manage your thoughts, feelings and harmful behaviours that could have been caused by what has caused you traumatic pain, as well trying to ground you in the present.
  • Eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR): This is a type of therapy that could make you further explore your thoughts around specific traumatic situations and help you reprocess them to reduce the impact they have on you in the present.

There is no set way of treatment as we like to make sure that each young person has their care tailored to them, and you are free to voice any concerns you may have during your time with us.
