Introduction to performance analysis
Recovering from a pandemic has not been easy. Keeping our focus on the right priorities meant we continued to deliver compassionate care, safely. This section explores and analyses our performance, what our challenges and risks have been, and additional performance measures – from environmental matters to quality.
Regulatory performance
NHS England sets out a number a national objectives for each NHS provider as part of operational planning. As a Trust we monitor our progress against these national objectives through our performance assurance processes and the integrated performance report at Board.
Below are a few of the highlighted metrics the Board have closely monitored throughout the year.
Children and young people
January 2024 data shows Lincolnshire is first out of 42 ICBs against the national waiting times standards for children and young people’s services, with 84% receiving their first contact in less than 4 weeks.
We know however we have not hit the national target for increased access to services for children and young people for 23/24 and that there are a number of services whose activity is not currently included in the national submissions where our waits are longer than we would like.
Significant work has taken place over the last year to tackle and improve waiting times for children and young people and Lincolnshire has a successful model of prevention and early intervention which provides support in schools and communities to prevent emotional wellbeing concerns escalating to mental health concerns.
Significant improvements have been made following additional investment and the Trust has seen a reduction in the number of young people waiting over 12 weeks for treatment from 283 people in February 2022 to 130 people in February 2024 (a reduction of 54%).
Anyone waiting for services has contact at least once a month from a member of the children and young people’s team to monitor any change and share useful guided self-help resources.
We now also have 95% of young people waiting less than 4 weeks for a routine referral to our children and young people eating disorder service.
Dementia diagnosis rate
As part of the Lincolnshire system we have made significant progress against the Dementia diagnosis rate target, increasing performance to 65.8% from 62.3% at the start of the financial year and are now ranked 17th out of 42 ICBs.
Community mental health
We continue to see growing numbers of people access our services across community mental health teams, talking therapies and perinatal although we have not hit our planned objectives for 23/24 we are performing comparably for these targets to other mental health providers in our region.
Our recovery rate for those accessing talking therapies remains over 50% and more than 80% of people received a follow-up contact within 72 hours of being discharged from one of our wards. Our Early Intervention in Psychosis team are also consistently hitting the national standard for waiting times.
Lincolnshire Talking Therapies continues to consistently achieve the nationally set target of 75% of people commencing treatment within 6 weeks and 95% within 18 weeks.
Adult autism diagnosis
The overall number of people waiting for an adult autism assessment has reduced by 40% in 23/24 and the median waiting time is now 11 weeks.
