Still time to tell us your views on the future of dementia care in Lincolnshire

Following the temporary closure of Manthorpe ward in Grantham in April 2020 during the pandemic, we have been engaging with patients, staff, partners and the public on possible ways to deliver intensive support and hospital care for people living with dementia in the future.

As the pandemic impacted longer than expected, the Trust has been piloting a new ‘hospital at home’ approach and has spent the last few years evaluating its impact.

Following significant engagement and evaluation of what impact the dementia home treatment service has had on patient experience and outcomes, the Trust has now developed two options for how it could deliver services and is now consulting on the future service offer. These are:

  • Option 1: Reopen Manthorpe ward as an 18-bed dementia inpatient service and discontinue the Dementia Home Treatment Team.
  • Option 2: Permanently close Manthorpe Ward and transition from a pilot to a permanent Dementia Home Treatment Team service (our preferred option).

Our consultation has been open since February but continues to be open to gather people’s views to help inform next steps until 23 May 2025.

People can contribute by an online or paper-based survey. The team is visiting a number of groups and organisations across the county who support people living with dementia to have their say.
