Lincolnshire Student Nurse Dorothy Dixon won 'Student Nurse of the Year: Mental Health’ at the Student Nursing Times Awards which was held on Friday 23 April 2023.

Being successful in this prestigious award demonstrates Dorothy’s commitment and dedication to providing the best possible care for patients at Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (LPFT), the county’s NHS provider of mental health, learning disability and autism services.

Dorothy started her mental health nursing degree in January 2022 following the completion of the Nursing Associate programme 18 months earlier. She is due to be fully qualified this September.

She was thrilled to attend the awards ceremony in London and said:

"To be recognised for my hard work was astonishing. The day was filled with emotions! I was nervous, excited, and overwhelmed but mostly extremely happy and proud to work for LPFT.”

Dorothy is described by her colleagues as being calm and steady in any situation and always makes time to support others and build on her knowledge and skills.

Dorothy’s compassion and care shine through with every interaction and she always keeps patients at the heart of her work. One of Dorothy’s patients said that she is a

“representative of a brighter future that treats those who are suffering not as patients but as people in our community who need help. She is kind, bubbly, empathetic, inquisitive, and dedicated to improving the lives of our most vulnerable people.”

Sharon Harvey, Director of Nursing and Quality at LPFT, said:

“I would like to express how proud we are of Dorothy and her commitment to people and their families, her colleagues, education, and our Trust. This fantastic accomplishment is just one step in her journey and we know Dorothy will achieve amazing things as her career continues.”
