Dad to take on ‘daunting’ challenge to help Lincolnshire NHS colleagues

A trainee mental health social worker is preparing for one of the most daunting challenges he has ever faced – all to help his NHS colleagues.
Daniel Thompson, who is an apprentice social worker at Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (LPFT), is taking part in his first ever London Marathon on Sunday 2 October in order to raise money for the Lincolnshire NHS charity.
The 30-year-old dad-of-two admits he is a novice when it comes to running, but is determined to meet the 26.2 mile challenge head on.
Mr Thompson, who lives in Lincoln, said:
“I’ve only ever done five or six 10k runs before – I’ve had to buy a treadmill especially for this!
“The London Marathon is something I’ve always wanted to do. It’s taken seven years to get a place, but I finally have one and I want to do my very best.”
Having worked for the Trust for two years, Daniel has seen just how much the charity funds can make a difference to the staff working around the clock to provide quality care.
“With this charity you can see first-hand where the money is going and the difference it is making,” he said.
“It’s helped make a service user mural, it’s provided knitting for the older adults services and even ice poles to keep staff hydrated on that extremely hot summer day.
“I’d like to raise £262 in honour of the 26.2 miles and if I get even more than that I will be absolutely over the moon.”
Charlotte Lenton, Charity Fundraising Assistant for the Lincolnshire NHS charity, added:
“We are incredibly grateful Daniel has chosen to raise money to help our cause.
“We will be supporting him all the way and look forward to seeing him crossing the finish line.”
