Events will promote support for dementia or mental health problems

Two showcase events are taking place this month to help people discover more about the support available across Lincolnshire – one for people suffering from dementia, the other for those with mental health problems.

A Dementia Support Showcase is being held at Lincoln’s Alive Centre on December 7th from 2pm to 4pm.  The event is an opportunity for county groups and organisations to showcase the support they offer for people with dementia and their carers.

The dementia showcase is being hosted by Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust’s (LPFT), Community Partnerships Team, and many of the featured groups belong to the extensive Dementia Support Network, which was set up earlier this year by LPFT, Lincolnshire County Council and local Clinical Commissioning Groups.

The network was created to bring together groups who help and support people with dementia and the people who care for them, offering a range of different activities to help them maintain as good a quality of life as possible.

Meanwhile, a Mental Health Support Showcase event is taking place at the St Swithin’s Community Centre, Baggholme Road, Lincoln, on December 10th from 1pm to 3:30pm.

This event invites anyone perhaps experiencing mental health problems for the first time, or living with a long-term mental health condition, to drop in and find out more about the help available to them in their area.

The support groups on offer make up part of LPFT’s Managed Care Network, which was formed in partnership with Lincolnshire County Council to link organisations that help people prevent, manage and recover from mental illness across Lincolnshire.

LPFT Associate Director of Community Partnerships, Paul Jackman, said that both events are great opportunities for people to discover the vast amount of community help and support groups available out there.

It always amazes me just how much is going on to help people to live well in what are sometimes very challenging circumstances.  We want to keep building on what has already been achieved for people with dementia, and people with mental health problems, and these events are a great opportunity to find out what’s happening and to get involved.

Both events will have a market place format, featuring stalls from support groups promoting their work.

If you would like more information on either event, or would like your support group or organisation to have a stand, please contact Aaron Hall in the Community Partnerships team via email at aaron.hall@lpft.nhs.uk or call (01529) 222223.
