Family event set to mark World Mental Health Day

Recycled artwork, samba drumming, and photos of happiness, will all feature as part of a Trust community event to mark World Mental Health Day.

The family day of celebrations has been organised by Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (LPFT) on 10th October, to mark the global occasion, which aims to challenge stigma and raise awareness of mental health problems across the world.

The Trust event, has the theme of ‘Living well in our communities’, and we've asked residents in Lincolnshire to submit a photo which best depicts their view of what makes them happy and helps them look after their mental health and wellbeing.

Every photograph submitted has been entered into a random prize draw with a first prize of £100 worth of shopping vouchers.  Second and third place will receive vouchers for £50 and £25 respectively.

LPFT has teamed up with county-based Cultural Solutions UK, an independent arts and cultural development organisation, to host proceedings, which will feature music and creative writing workshops, visual arts, and a performance by Marvellous Me! – an innovative theatre production commissioned by Enable East and delivered by Invisible Arts, addressing mental health issues for under 11s.

In addition to the various activities being held throughout the day, the Trust will also be celebrating two important milestone achievements.

LPFT has recently recruited its 10,000th member, with the Trust’s SHINE network also notching up its 1,000th member earlier this year.

The SHINE Mental Health Network is made up of over 200 independent groups and organisations that support people with mental health problems and their carers.

Trust Chair Paul Devlin, said reaching such an impressive membership is certainly a reason to celebrate.

World Mental Health Day is all about raising awareness of what can be done to ensure that people with mental health problems can live well in their communities as much as possible.  Reaching our 10,000th member, and SHINE now having 1,000 members, are two fantastic achievements.  Members are crucial in helping us to continually evolve, as their views and input help us to improve the quality of care our patients receive.  World Mental Health Day is a great opportunity for our staff and patients to come together and recognise the important work that goes on day in, day out, not just across Lincolnshire, but throughout the world to help people get the most out of their lives. We want to show the variety of ways people look after their own mental wellbeing.

LPFT’s Living well in our communities event kicks off at 10:00 on 10th October at the Alive (New Life) Centre, 22 Newland, Lincoln, LN1 1XD and all are welcome to attend.
