Lincolnshire volunteers needed to help support dementia research
Published on: 19th May 2021
By the end of Dementia Action Week 17-23 May, three Lincolnshire NHS Trusts have set out to achieve and ambitious target of 300 new registrations for Join Dementia Research in the county. To follow challenge updates on social media, use #LincsJDR300.
Working together, Lincolnshire Community Health Services (LCHS), Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (LPFT), and United Lincolnshire Health Trust (ULHT), are raising awareness of the important role of dementia research in understanding dementia and working towards a cure.
Join Dementia Research is a partnership between the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR), Alzheimer’s Scotland, Alzehimer’s Research UK and the Alzheimer’s Society. The service allows people to register their interest in dementia research and matches them to suitable studies, which they can then choose to get involved in if they so wish. All studies using Join Dementia Research will have been approved by a Research Ethics Committee. This means that they have been checked to make sure they protect the rights, safety and wellbeing of people involved in research.
Dementia affects more than 850,000 people in the UK, which will rise to over 1million by 2025. Research is the best way to make a difference. So far, 48,848 people have signed up to Join Dementia Research but we urgently need more to help people living with the condition both now and in the future.
Anne Chafer, Senior Clinical Research Practitioner at LPFT, said:
“Please help us boost the number of people on the JDR register. Research is the only way we will be able to find a cure for all forms of dementia and research cannot happen without people like you helping us.”
We would be incredibly grateful if you spread the word about Join Dementia Research to family and friends. You could also run a promotional drive in/around your area of work, using free materials available to order via the JDR website.
