Local NHS staff are celebrating a ‘hat-trick’ of potential winners in the prestigious Health Service Journal Awards for 2017, with Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust announced as a finalist in three categories this year.

Anne-Maria Olphert, Director of Nursing, Allied Health Professionals and Quality, has been shortlisted in the Clinical Leader of the Year category, sharing the stage at the event with two previously award-winning Trust services – Langworth ward at North Hykeham, and the North East Lincolnshire Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services’ Crisis and Intensive Home Treatment Team.

Anne-Maria joined the Trust in January 2016. Colleagues say she is passionate about working to get the best results every time for both patients and staff in all that she does. By talking to and working with senior leaders, staff, patients and carers from across the Trust, her work has had a direct impact on improving the quality of care.

Chair of LPFT, Paul Devlin said:

Anne-Maria has the courage and ability to challenge others to think differently and in new ways. She always wants to hear from staff and patients about their experience of our care and acts on their feedback. She recognises that actions speak louder than words and that, if we want to keep improving our services further, everyone needs to give of their very best.

Another Trust HSJ Awards finalist, Langworth ward at North Hykeham, took first place in the Older People’s Mental Health and Dementia category of the national Positive Practice in Mental Health awards this October, recognising its work on a personalised sensory toolkit. It’s now up for the Most Effective Adoption and Diffusion of Best Practice award in the HSJ Awards.

The team’s toolkit uses innovative, sensory activities such as memory boxes, personalised themed rummage boxes and pet animals to engage people staying on the ward. It also helps the staff manage the complex behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia whilst keeping patients safe.

The North East Lincolnshire Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service’s Crisis and Intensive Home Treatment Team was also highly commended in the Positive Practice in Mental Health awards and earlier this year won the Specialist Service category at the Health Service Journal (HSJ) Value in Healthcare Awards. The team has now been shortlisted in the Specialised Services Redesign category of the HSJ Awards.

The team works closely with local A&E services, adult crisis intervention services and local authority children’s services to help keep children or young people experiencing a mental health crisis safely at home where possible, supporting continuity of care for them and their family.

Anne-Maria said:

I’m delighted to have been nominated for this award, and equally proud to join two such brilliant Trust teams in being shortlisted. Quality and safety are top priorities for everyone across the Trust and we work incredibly hard to ensure we offer the best services possible – and I think this hat-trick of successful nominations reflects that.

For 36 years the HSJ Awards have recognised, celebrated and promoted the finest achievements in the NHS and they have grown to become the most sought-after accolade in British healthcare. The winners will be announced on 22 November 2017 at the Intercontinental O2, London.
