New 24/7 mental health crisis text service launches in Lincolnshire

People across Lincolnshire can now access confidential urgent mental health support through a new crisis text service called ChatHealth.

Continuing to expand and improve the mental health crisis care offer in the county, ChatHealth is an NHSE secure service that is part of the urgent care helpline already available through NHS 111 Option 2, provided by mental health professionals in Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

ChatHealth offers a text message service for those who don’t feel comfortable speaking on the phone, or find face-to-face contact difficult, providing a discreet and accessible option to help people come forward for support.

The service is delivered by trained mental health professionals who provide mental health and wellbeing support to anyone in crisis or struggling with mental health challenges. Offering timely and accessible support, including emotional support, risk assessment, safety planning and signposting to further services, as needed.

Anyone needing urgent mental health advice and support can send a text message from any mobile phone, or start a chat online through the ChatHealth online platform.

There are two dedicated text lines available, one for adults (over 18) on 07312 263027 and the other for children and young people (under 18) on 07480 635303.*

The service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for anyone experiencing a mental health crisis or emotional distress, or those who may be worried about a friend or family member.

Lee Wing, Director of Operations from Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, explained that: “Introducing ChatHealth is an important step in making urgent mental health support even more accessible for people across Lincolnshire. We know that not everyone feels comfortable speaking on the phone, particularly when they are in distress, so offering text and online chat options provides another safe, confidential way for people to reach out for help at any time of the day or night.

“Our priority is ensuring that anyone experiencing a mental health crisis, or is concerned about someone else, can access timely support in a way that works best for them.”

The service complements existing services in Lincolnshire, including the Mental Health Urgent Assessment Centre located at the Peter Hodgkinson Centre, Lincoln, the Community Wellbeing Hubs and out-of-hours support via the Night Light Cafés, all of which operate across the county.
