An NHS estates officer working for the local mental health and learning disabilities trust has recently celebrated 40 years of service with the NHS.

Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (LPFT) presented an amazing 34 long service awards to individuals who are marking 20, 30 or 40 years with the NHS. Together the group has a career span of over 860 years.

Adrian Dowse, one of the staff marking 40 years’ service, started work at the Trent Regional Health Authority in 1978; from there he worked in several other health organisations in Derbyshire and Lincolnshire.

Adrian began working for LPFT in 2013; one of his first major estates projects was to assist moving the child and adolescent mental health service (CAMHS) team in North East Lincolnshire to their current premises at Freshney Green Primary Care Centre in Grimsby.

Estates does not always have a high profile, but Adrian is passionate that there is a direct relationship between good environments impacting on positive patient experiences.

He said

“I am very proud to be recognised for 40 years’ service in the NHS.

“I have experienced so much change in my career. At the beginning, organisations had typing pools and no e-mails, to now being in an IT led workplace, things have really advanced.

“Working for the NHS is not just a job, it’s more of a vocation – it’s about wanting to contribute and do something good to support our communities.

“It is good to work with some fantastic colleagues in a supportive environment where I feel valued for what I do.”

Interim Director of Operations, Chris Higgins, manages the estates service at LPFT.

He said:

“We’re delighted to be celebrating these milestones with so many colleagues who have chosen to build their careers within the NHS.

“We work hard to offer rewarding roles to help keep staff within our services. We value their skills and expertise in their respective areas, and the way in which they use their experience to offer the best services to our patients.

“I hope other people who may be considering joining the Trust will be able to see roles with us as offering a rewarding career where they can make a difference to people’s lives, every day.”
