As the number of rape cases going to trial this year is expected to be about 30% more than in previous years*, Lincolnshire is to host its first rape and sexual abuse public information event to help people know what their options are and what services are available to them to help them to speak out.
Organised by the county’s only NHS sexual assault referral centre (SARC), Spring Lodge, the free event is being held on 22 April from 6pm to 9pm at Alive Enterprises, 22 Newland, Lincoln LN1 1XD.
As well as hearing the journeys of individual’s personal experiences and recovery, there will be a number of highly trained specialists from Spring Lodge providing information and running workshops on the work of the SARC.
Spring Lodge manager, Amanda Farquhar, said:
Victims are often blamed for drinking too much alcohol but the law on consent is clear, if someone is incapacitated to give consent to sex then this is rape, new guidance from the Crown Prosecution Service is making this clearer for the perpetrator to explain what steps they have taken to obtain consent as well as considering capacity and freedom to consent
Our event aims to encourage people to come forward and seek the help and advice they need to help them move on with their lives, in the direction that they want to.
If you have been a victim of sexual violence, there are people you can talk to. For free, confidential help, call: 01522 524402.
As capacity is limited at this free event, it is advisable to book by either email: info@lpft.nhs.uk or call 01529 222276.
