Research Week – incorporating Dementia Awareness and Be Part of Research

Published on: 20th May 2019

Medical research changes lives and is vital, as it can provide important information about disease trends and risk factors, outcomes of treatment or public health interventions, patterns of care, and health care costs.

Monday, 20 May to Sunday, 26 May is our 2019 Research Week. The Research team are out and about working to raise the profile of research and get people involved.

International Clinical Trials Day is an annual event held on 20 May to raise awareness of clinical trials and encourage staff, patients, carers and the public to get involved and to celebrate improvements in care and treatment thanks to clinical research.

20 May is the when the first controlled clinical trial was conducted in the modern era - the 1747 scurvy trial conducted by James Lind.

To mark International Clinical Trials Day 2019, the National Institute for Health Research has launched Be Part of Research,  which gives everyone the chance to find out about clinical trials and how they can take part in research.

It is also Dementia Action Week, which seeks to unite people, workplaces, schools and communities to take action and improve the lives of people living with dementia.

Our Research Team are celebrating these events within Research Week.

Research can only happen if we are all willing to be involved.

Here are some simple ways you can make a difference:
