Unpaid or informal carers perform a critical role, looking after thousands of people across Lincolnshire, providing them with vital care and support every day of the year. However, there are still many carers who are yet to come forwards for their booster vaccination.
Having seen and given booster vaccinations to more than 472,000 people, the equivalent to 83.9% of those eligible aged 18 and over, the NHS in Lincolnshire is well on track to offer and administer a booster to everyone who wants one, however, there are still thousands of people yet to get boosted.
Rebecca Neno, Director of Covid and Influenza Vaccination Programme, NHS Lincolnshire CCG, said:
“Whilst 83.9% is a fantastic achievement, we need to do more, and we are concerned about the remaining 16% who have not yet been boosted. For carers in particular, it is vital that everyone 16 and over has a booster vaccination, not just to protect themselves but also to protect the people they are looking after who are often the most vulnerable.
“We know that getting boosted provides significant extra protection against covid, including the Omicron variant, and recent studies have shown getting boosted leads to significant increases in antibody responses, meaning the risk of severe covid infection, illness and hospitalisation is much reduced.
The army of unpaid carers in Lincolnshire, who provide care for relatives and/or friends, often prioritise the person they are looking after before themselves.
Rebecca added:
“We know this is the case and we are enormously grateful for everything our carers do, without them we’d be in an impossible situation. But they need to look after themselves too and in this instance that means getting vaccinated.
“We have good availability at all of our vaccination sites across the county, and we continue to offer walk-ins at some, including our Mass Vaccination Centres at the Lincolnshire Showground, and at PRSA, Boston. We also continue to run pop-up vaccination sessions each week across the county, which anyone – carers included – can take advantage of."
In addition, to the pop-up vaccination sessions listed below, the vaccination teams at PRSA and Lincolnshire Showground have organised a further round of bespoke walk-in sessions next week for pregnant women and people who are needle-phobic, listed immediately below.
