1 in 10 young people suffer from mental health problems. It is important that young people can talk openly about their feelings and get confidence in the knowledge that others have been through and recovered from mental health illness.
Lincolnshire is to host its first young people mental health public information event. Organised by Lost Luggage, a group of young people who have experienced mental health difficulties and Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (LPFT) this free event is being held on Saturday, 18 July 2015, 14.00 - 17.00 at The Collection, Danes Terrace, Lincoln LN2 1LP.
The event will challenge preconceptions about young people’s mental health. Members of Lost Luggage will share their stories of what helped them on their road to recovery.
Amy Havenhand, one of the Lost Luggage co-ordinators said:
Often the biggest problem with young people’s mental health is not the illness itself but the stigma attached to it. We hope that our event will raise awareness of young people’s mental wellbeing and go some way in challenging the stigma people can often feel.
The Lost Luggage group said:
This is the first event of its kind organised by the group and the Trust. Mental health illness is still a taboo among young people. We want to stamp out the discrimination by challenging some myths and sharing first-hand experience of Lost Luggage members who have recovered from mental health difficulties.
As capacity is limited at this free event, it is advisable to book by either emailing: info@lpft.nhs.uk or calling 01529 222276.
