Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is working in collaboration with the University of Lincoln and University of Nottingham Medical Schools to train the next generation of doctors.
We would welcome people with lived experience of mental health services (Experts by Experience) to play a key role in the delivery of our medical training.
Who can be one of our Experts by Experience?
People with lived experience who have been in receipt of Mental Health Services, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) and/or Learning Disability Service as a service user, patient, carer or relative.
What will the role involve?
Each Expert by Experience would help to educate small groups of about 8 medical students for half a day by talking to them about their lived experience and recovery. The Expert by Experience can choose how they deliver the session to the students; for example, they could give a presentation, hold a question-and-answer session, be interviewed by a medical educator or they might like to make a short video. The expert can be involved face to face or could join a session by a video call if they prefer.
What support will be offered?
We will work in partnership with the Trust’s Participation Team to ensure we have the right support in place.
The Medical Education Team have employed an Expert by Experience Educator to support other experts.
The Nurse Tutor has several years’ experience of designing and delivering teaching with service users and carers in a range of settings.
Experts by Experience will be offered support before and after their sessions.
Depending on interest, we can offer some Expert by Experience group events.
The Trust will pay all reasonable travel expenses and provide suitable refreshments as required.
