National Volunteers' Week

Published on: 6th June 2017

As we mark national Volunteers’ Week I wanted to take the opportunity to express my thanks and gratitude for everything LPFT volunteers do to make a difference to our patients, their families and carers.

For years Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust has benefitted from the contribution of volunteers from diverse backgrounds and differing age groups to assist with a range of services and activities that enhance the care and treatment we provide.

Volunteers bring a massive added extra to the Trust. They help to improve the quality of life for service users in so many ways. The Trust currently has around 100 dedicated volunteers who give up their free time in a variety of ways: from helping out as welcomers, delivering courses at the Recovery College, to volunteering at our inpatient units. Trust volunteers also provide a number of support services such as befriending, taking part in ward based social activities, exercise therapy, gardening, music and the arts.

I have worked in the Third Sector for many years and know how critical volunteers can be. They all make a fantastic contribution to the wellbeing of patients and their carers, and their vital input cannot be underestimated. Their work complements the work of paid employees and enhances the experience of our service users and carers.

Whether they give a little of their time or a lot, their contribution is something worth celebrating during Volunteer’s Week and I hope others will be encourgaed to follow in their steps, whilst reflecting on the positive impact they have.

Thank you once again to all volunteers for the dedication and commitment you show to improving patient experiences across the Trust.
