Trust innovation to help improve patient outcomes

Published on: 29th September 2015

A new system which provides instant feedback to mental health patients and carers on how treatment is progressing has been shortlisted for a national innovation award.

The MyOutcomes®UK management system which was pioneered by Dr Sami Timimi and Dianne Tetley from Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, and developed in collaboration with Canadian-based Health Factors, has been named as a finalist in this year’s Medipex NHS Innovation Awards and Showcase 2015.

MyOutcomes®UK maps therapeutic outcomes and the relationship between practitioners and patients.

It interprets scores automatically and charts progress graphically so that health professionals can provide verbal and visual ‘real-time’, session-by-session feedback to individual patients and/or their carers, about their progress.

It also has inbuilt ‘flags’ that alert practitioners and their supervisors to cases where there is need for improvement, so a change in approach can be taken, if necessary.

In addition to saving the NHS time and money, MyOutcomes®UK also hopes to reduce waiting list times, improve therapeutic efficiency, and increase recovery rates.

Dianne, the Trust’s Assistant Director of Research and Effectiveness said:

MyOutcomes®UK is a unique resource primarily designed as a clinical tool enabling practitioners to achieve better outcomes for their patients, but it’s also a powerful reporting instrument, able to provide a suite of ‘recovery’ and service activity metrics.  The Trust’s development of the system was a result of an alliance with the original MyOutcomes project, and Vice President Cindy Hanson will be flying into the UK from Canada, to join us at the awards ceremony on 8th October.

The Medipex NHS Innovation Awards and Showcase 2015 identify individuals and teams working across the NHS whose ideas or inventions have, or could lead to, improvement in patient experience.
