National recognition for support for staff carers

Published on: 17th April 2024

We’re delighted to share that the Trust has successfully been accredited with level 2 of the Carer Confident benchmark from Carers UK, for our work to build a supportive and inclusive workplace for staff who are or may become carers.

Research carried out by Carers UK shows that one in seven people juggle work with caring for someone who is older, ill or disabled. Without the right support, one in six carers give up work or reduce working hours to care.

There are three levels in total that can be achieved through the Employers for Carers benchmarking scheme, with the Trust having achieved level 1 in 2021.

The scheme recognises organisations that demonstrate an inclusive workplace where carers are recognised, respected and supported.

In the feedback report, Carers UK praised the Trust for providing comprehensive evidence that not only met but exceeded the criteria in many sections. They were particularly impressed by the variety of help on offer, from practical support and flexibilities from line managers, to the staff carer MS Teams channel, online forums, staff carers passport and carer awareness training.

Special thanks go to Donna Bradford, Head of Carers and Relative Experience and Volunteers at LPFT, for all she does to ensure staff carers, and carers of those who receive support from our services, receive the support they need. This is a great achievement and we look forward to continuing to ensure staff with caring responsibilities are supported.
