70 mile cycle celebrates landmark NHS birthday

Published on: 22nd June 2018

Local NHS staff, their friends and family, and current and former patients will be taking on a long distance cycle challenge on Saturday 7 July to celebrate the landmark 70th birthday of the NHS.

Organised by Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (LPFT), NHS staff from health services across the county are using the opportunity to celebrate and show support to one of the nation’s most valued organisations. As well as taking the opportunity to promote healthy activities that people can do to look after their own physical and mental wellbeing.

The course will cover a choice of routes of 70 miles or 70 kilometres (43 miles) around parts of Lincolnshire, starting and finishing at Discovery House on the St George’s site in Lincoln.

Ian Jerams, Director of Operations for LPFT said:

This is a great opportunity to bring people together from across the whole of the NHS in Lincolnshire, to celebrate 70 years of a much valued organisation.

Whilst the NHS faces challenges in Lincolnshire and nationally, it remains an accessible and high quality health service, much loved by the local community. The response to this event from across the whole of the NHS has been fantastic. The event is still open to anybody who wants to join us to help celebrate 70 years of success.

One of the Trust’s former services users, Sebastien Rosse, who previously fundraised over £2,000 for LPFT, is joining the cycle.

Sebastien said:

I’m proud to be involved in the 70 mile bike ride with the Trust. I feel it is important to continue to support the NHS and celebrate this 70 year milestone.

For those interested in joining the cycle, please contact communicationslpft@lpft.nhs.uk to register and to find out more about the two routes available.

The cyclists will set off from Discovery House at 9:00am on Saturday 7 July. The full address is Discovery House, Long Leys Road, Lincoln LN1 1FS.
